Welcome to beautiful Prescott Wisconsin, home of the St. Croix and Mississippi confluence!

Once again, spring has arrived in full force; beautiful warm weather, the trees and plants are already leafed out and in full bloom, the eagles are soaring through the blue sky, the fishing opener has come and gone, and soon school will be done for another year.

While it seems that there are an awful lot of bad things happening in this great nation of ours, and you get the sense that no one wants to be bothered anymore, here in Prescott, every Memorial Day, we like to slow down, get together, and honor those that have given us the opportunities we take for granted every day. Take a moment to think about what this world would be like if these men and women had not given their time, talents, and lives for their country. The least we can do in return is stand behind them and honor the ones that have given their lives as we cannot change the past, or stop the future.

This Memorial Day, come and take a drive through the beautiful St. Croix Valley area starting in Prescott and follow the "Great River Road," and bring your camera! If you are real adventurous, the Freedom Park Visitor and Learning Center will be holding their 1st "Memorial Mile Run," which will start at the Freedom Park Pavilion (registration starts at 7:15 a.m./ $5.00 per person/ run starts at 8:00 a.m./ for further information go to http://www.freedomparkwi.org/). Then we would love to have you stay for our Memorial Day parade which starts at 10:00 a.m., winds through Prescott, and ends at a gorgeous spot in front of Pine Glen Cemetery followed by a commencement speech and 21 gun salute. After shedding a few tears, relax and come and join us for the Prescott Chamber of Commerce Chicken Feed - food provided by Ptacek's and their award winning grill - we would love to have you with us! While at the park, you can visit the learning center and have desert with them and celebrate their anniversary, watch the rivers converge, and catch glimpses of the eagles soaring - what more could you ask for!

This is a great time to visit Prescott! Everyone is starting to get into the Holiday spirit - putting up their Christmas trees and outdoor decor, antique stores prepping for holiday shoppers, restaurants serving up last minute meals, and the Chamber of Commerce is serving up some

"HOMETOWN HOLIDAYS!"

Come December 5th, Prescott will be all a buzz:

Children can get their picture taken with Santa and decorate cookies from 12:00 - 3:00!

There will be a pet parade starting at 1:30 at the Prescott Hardware Store - so come with your best costumes!

We will be holding our 3rd annual gingerbread house contest - full rules and building codes can be found at the chamber's website: http://www.prescottwi.com/, or call 715-262-3284 for more information, or you can come down and vote for your favorite!

There will be a bake sale for all the sweet-tooth's out there.

And the Prescott businesses will be in full Holiday Swing!

Prescott is a short 30 minute drive from the Twin Cities, with a small town atmosphere. Come and enjoy this quaint little town of yesteryear, and leave all your troubles behind. We have plenty to offer for those of you stopping in and staying awhile - from antique shops and restaurants, to our Visitor Center where you can learn how Prescott all began, or stop down and watch a football game, or just enjoy the amazing views. You never know what you will find here!

Halloween Fun and Chili Contest in Prescott, WI

Have you had the opportunity to get out and check out the fall foliage?

Are your little ones ready to morph into ghosts, goblins, ghouls, and witches on October 31st?

When was the last time you had the chance to brew up your favorite cauldron of chili?

Well, now is your chance to make your way to the beautiful town of Prescott, where on your way here you will encounter some of the most awesome river views for miles! Yes, even though it has been a tough site seeing season, we still have plenty to offer.

Wondering what to do and the kids are driving you crazy? Pack the activity books and bring them along! Not only will they enjoy the breathtaking views, they can also learn about nature. This time of year, our chamber members are very creative with ways to keep everyone entertained! Stop by our new Prescott Visitor Center where you can really take in the breathtaking views of the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers and learn about our past, present, and future; or you can stop by Carpenter's Nature Center and pick a few tasty apples and see if you can spot a soaring eagle; travel the "Great River Road" and stop by Nesbitt's Nursery to take a wagon ride, go thru a spruce tree maze, pick a pumpkin or some apples, visit some animals, or just sit and take in their homemade treats; or just to relax, stop at one of our fine restaurants and enjoy yourself.

Whatever your pleasure, stop in and say hi and visit our 1st annual Halloween Spooktakular and Chili Contest! We are bringing Halloween back to Prescott! For the little ghosts, goblins, ghouls and witches there will be games to play and prizes to be had, pumpkins to decorate, hair to be made "pretty", costume contests - and best of all - Chili to be tasted! Anyone daring enough to try, bring us your best cauldron (crockpot) of chili to be sampled by all of the ghosts and ghouls on Halloween. This is free for one and all . . . so don't be shy . . . come and stop by!

Fall In The St Croix River Valley

This BLOG about "Fall In The St Croix River Valley" is written with both a happy and sad face. Happy to see the gorgeous views that the change in weather brings to our area. Sad to see the boats start to come out of the river knowing that it will soon be frozen over. Prescott is a fantastic place to start, finish or stop during your trip to take in the stunning fall colors along the Great River Road. Being at the confluence of the two beautiful rivers (the Mississippi and the St Croix), we are so fortunate to be right in the midst of it all. One can leave the big city and feel like they are worlds away in only a matter of minutes. If just driving around taking in the colors is not enough, Prescott offers other options. Just minutes away from Kinnikinnick State Park and Carpenter Nature Center where miles of trails and breathtaking views await you. Many orchards surround our city with fresh fruit just waiting to be picked. If all that hiking or fruit picking has you feeling a bit parched, just a short stroll downtown offers visitors many options to quench their thirst. Prescott also has some great restaurants as well. Prescott Chamber Memorial Day Chicken Feed

Hello everyone! Now that is actually becoming "spring", even though every day is almost as windy as the last, we hope you are able to get out and enjoy the warmer weather.

Here in Prescott WI, the trees and flowers are all starting to bloom and making the yards and parks beautiful, and the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers are fully flowing once again. All of this just in time for the end of the school year when we are hoping to see you traveling thru.

For everyone who does not expect to do any long distance traveling, we are located within 30 minutes of St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN, with a lot of area community activities and great restaurants to visit.

For anyone looking for something to do on Memorial Day, or would just like to remember the Veterans in your life, please come and join us on Memorial Day for our Prescott Memorial Day Parade. It will begin about 9:00 a.m. and commence at our St. Joseph's Cemetary about 10:45.
Afterwards, everyone is invited to enjoy some lunch at our Chicken Feed at the Prescott Visitors Center (formerly known as Freedom Park). At the same time, you can overlook the confluence of the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers and watch the eagles soaring. You can also enjoy the visitor center with all of their displays.

We hope the day will have pleasant weather, and that you can come and join us for lunch, and cap off your day enjoying the rest of Prescott.

So Close to Nature - Carpenter Nature Center

It's amazing that being so close to the big cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, that we are so close to all nature has to offer as well.
Prescott is just 5 minutes from a great place to getaway, watch wildlife and take a stroll.

Carpenter Nature Center : Update

Eagle migration has been terrific lately and many of our summer birds are already returning, although a few winter species like juncos and siskins have yet to vacate our premises. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to get outside and enjoy nature-why not RSVP for one of our terrific upcoming programs. Space is limited so please RSVP by calling 651-437-4359.

March 27th, Friday 8:30-11:30 BIRD BANDING-
Bird banding dates back to 1595 and today it helps us learn vital facts about the 10,000+ bird species that share our planet with us. Visit with CNC’s expert bird banding team to see songbirds up close, and watch as the banders identify, band, and release birds. This program is weather dependent as the safety of the birds is our utmost priority. There is no fee for this program but donations of bird seed and suet are encouraged and greatly appreciated.

March 28th, Saturday 3:00-5:00 MAKING MAPLE SYRUP-(*1:00-3:00 PM Program is SOLD OUT*)
Welcome the coming of spring by hiking the sugar bush, tapping maple trees, witnessing sap turning into syrup and sampling the finished product. While the program starts indoors, be prepared to follow the naturalists outside into the spring snow or mud for a truly interactive experience. Program fee: $5.00 per person or $3.00 for Friends of CNC and children under 10 years of age.

March 29th, Sunday 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. PRUNING APPLE TREES-
Whether you only have a couple apple trees in your backyard or if you operate an orchard, you are invited to join Carpenter Nature Center’s Horticulturist for a session on pruning apple trees. Winter and early spring is the best time for pruning fruit trees, so bundle up to walk through the orchard to see what a difference proper pruning can make. Learn what tools to use and participate in an interactive pruning exercise in the CNC orchard. Program fee: $15.00 for “Friends of CNC” / $20.00 for non-members (includes apple tree pruning manual)

Visitor Center exhibits blooming…
If you haven’t stopped by to see our latest additions to the Visitor Center-now is the time. In addition to the live animal aquarium/terrarium wall added last fall, and the interactive oak tree exhibit added over the holidays, we now have four ‘habitat islands’. While many details have yet to be finished, you can see wonderful life-like dioramas of the four main ecosystems found at Carpenter Nature Center. Look carefully and see if you and your family can spot a gar, a Cooper's Hawk, a frog in the prairie exhibit, a white-footed deer mouse, and tadpoles.

Green Bay Packers Come To Prescott WI

On Saturday, March 21 2009, some of our Green Bay Packers (players TBA) are coming to Prescott to play basketball against our local area residents team, the Prescott River Rats.
Come and see the showdown and help raise money for the Malone Elementary Parent Committee.

Here are some details:

When:
Saturday, March 21, 3 p.m., Prescott High School Gymnasium (doors will open at 1:30 p.m.)

How to get tickets:
Tickets will be on sale Saturday, March 7th, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Malone Elementary School (during the craft fair)
Tickets are $15 per person, including children of any ages with only 900 tickets available.
Tickets are on a first come first serve basis, with no advance orders and payments due at time of purchase.
Or if you are coming from out of town and need a relaxing getaway as well, the Arbor Inn bed and breakfast has a limited amount of complimentary tickets for their guests. See their website and blog page for details.
If there are still tickets available on March 9th they will be sold at the Malone School after school hours.

The basketball game will consist of two 20 minute halves and there will be an autograph session for 30 minutes during half time of the game.
Concessions will also be available.
